Two Orange Baby Buffalo!

DSCF7384
Little Man is the alpha of the herd, there at the front. If you call him, he’ll come running. The herd follows right behind.

Heading to the food source…..us. We feed them celery, apples, sweet bell peppers, and bread. Lots of bread!

Baby always stays very close to mom. Both calves are approximately three weeks old.
DSCF7389
They’re acting much more alert than my last visit.

There are two different kinds of buffalo, and this mom has the horns that go up and straight as opposed to horizontal and curl in.

Got them both in one shot. And luckily enough, I got mom tongue for each! 🙂

What are the odds the Good Year blimp was flying overhead? (things that make you think)

My friend Sami and her two daughters with their two friends (and Sami’s friend) came out to meet and feed the buffalo.  It was fascinating to watch the buffalo respond to the girls.  They followed them up and down along the fence line.  Maybe it was their energy level.

This next photo set are of the girls collection of wild daisies, discovering an abundance of ladybugs, and offers to “ladysit” each other’s bugs.  It was quite the picturesque activity!

Bison Neighbors

Lots of people talk to animals. Not very many listen, though.  That’s the problem.     ~Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

They like carrots, celery and apples. Don’t feed them from your hand or you will lose fingers.

It isn’t every day I can see my reflection in the eye of a bull bison.
